has inflicted catastrophic losses on Russian forces attempting to capture a key village on the Donetsk front, Ukrainian sources have claimed.
Over the last year, Russian commanders have been desperately trying to take control of the village of Terny.
The village is an important staging post on the way to Lyman.
Capturing the settlement would allow army to secure its flanks and open the road to the urban centre several kilometres away.
Russian commanders sent small infantry groups day and night to attack the heavily fortified around the village in the hope of achieving a breakthrough.

However, these detachments must cross over 10 kilometres of open fields to reach the Ukrainian lines.
The movements are picked up by Ukrainian drone operators, who then direct fire on their enemy.
As a result, the Russians suffer disastrous casualties before they even have a chance to reach the front line.
