HBO is once again diving deep into the world of , confirming a new spin-off project focused on the iconic Targaryen family.

This marks yet another effort by the network to continue expanding its hit fantasy universe, which has captivated audiences for over a decade, since it was first released in 2011.

Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Head of Drama, has now revealed in a recent that the network is already developing another Game of Thrones spin-off centered on the Targaryen bloodline.

While specifics remain under wraps, Orsi confirmed that this new series is in the works and is “very promising”, saying: “We have other spinoffs that we’re working on right now, one of which — which I won’t get into — is very promising, and it is still the Targaryen line”.

The new project will follow in the footsteps of the successful House of the Dragon, which has already been confirmed for a third season.

“There’s a number of other spinoffs, we can’t really guarantee what’s going to go forward, but we are very big budget on the other ones. I would say this is the most intimate one”, she added.

The Targaryen-centric series is just one part of HBO’s ongoing expansion of the Game of Thrones franchise. House of the Dragon, which explores the history of the House, has proven that audiences still have an insatiable appetite for Westeros, even years after the main Game of Thrones series concluded.

Orsi shared that alongside this Targaryen spin-off, HBO is also developing A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a series based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk & Egg novellas. The first book, The Hedge Knight, introduces characters Ser Duncan “Dunk” the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen (Egg), and is expected to be adapted into multiple seasons.

Unlike the large-scale epic battles of House of the Dragon, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will offer a more intimate, character-driven narrative with a lower budget and faster production turnaround, according to Orsi.

HBO’s Head of Drama also shared how vocal the Game of Thrones creator George R. R. Martin has been about his support for the new spin-off series, especially A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, for which he has provided positive internal feedback – after having previously criticized some changes made to House of the Dragon.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on HBO later this year, and more details about the other spin-offs are still to be revealed.
