Michael Strahan’s warning about Aaron Rodgers as Pittsburgh Steelers to ‘schedule talks’

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been advised to consider signing Aaron Rodgers, but FOX NFL analyst has already warned against the move. The 41-year-old quarterback could join a new team in 2025 if he does not return for a third season with the New York Jets.

Four-time MVP Rodgers joined the Jets in 2023 but suffered a season-ending injury on his debut. After recovering last year, he played an entire season with New York, throwing 28 touchdown passes, but the team ended with a disappointing 5-12 record.

In the final game of the regular season, Rodgers became only the fifth player in NFL history to throw 500 career touchdowns by notching four in a win over the Miami Dolphins. The possibility of him entering free agency has led to speculation that he could join the Steelers, but believes signing Rodgers should not be a decision that any team makes lightly.

“This will be his last game as a Jet, in my opinion; he’s one touchdown away from hitting that 500 touchdown mark,” on FOX ahead of the Dolphins game in January. “But a lot comes with Aaron Rodgers, and if you’re going to take on everything that comes with Aaron Rodgers, you need the production that usually comes with Aaron Rodgers, and they’re not getting that.

“This is Aaron Rodgers’ last game as a Jet. And if there’s somebody out there, I’d always believe there are teams who feel like they can get him and fix him and get that last bit. But is it worth it all with everything that comes with him? I don’t know.”

With the Jets recently appointing a new general manager and head coach, there have been reports that Rodgers will not return to New York in 2025. Former Steelers head coach Bill Cowher believes he could be an option for Pittsburgh, who allowed Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to share the quarterback role at different points last season.

“I think there’s gotta be a sense of urgency of taking some guys on the backend of their careers, T.J. Watt, Cam Heyward,” Cowher told . “They’re in the latter stages of their career. They want to win now. And that’s a big part of what they want to do.

“I don’t know where they are right now in terms of their quarterback situation with Russell [Wilson], and Justin [Fields], and Aaron [Rodgers]. I think a decision has to be made. What’s the future plan, and what’s the plan in the interim? I think there’ll be dialogue there. But those will be conversations taking place in that building.”

Despite Cowher suggestion Rodgers will be discussed as a possible solution, the Big Ten Network claims that the Steelers have enquired about a potential trade for Jacksonville Jaguars star Trevor Lawrence. Meanwhile, Rodgers was coy about his future with the Jets and the possibility of retirement after his final game of the season.

“I just need some time away to think about my future in the game and my future here if they want me to be a part of the next phase,” Rodgers said. “Either way, I’m thankful for my two years here.”
