Lando Norris ‘would have joined Ferrari’ as Lewis Hamilton stance made clear

has admitted that he ‘would have done the same thing as ’ had he been in the 40-year-old’s position last season. The seven-time world champion called time on his career and joined direct rivals in a blockbuster move.

Hamilton is currently undergoing a number of significant changes, learning Italian, adapting to life in Maranello and experiencing the differences of driving a -powered F1 car for the first time after 12 years at .

However, as many pundits predicted, the switch to Fred Vasseur’s squad appears to have galvanised Hamilton, who was low on confidence and frustrated after losing the qualifying battle 19-5 to team-mate in 2024.

The move, according to star Norris, was an understandable one. “It’s a cool story for him, you know, to go to ,” he explained in an appearance on This Morning.

“After everything he’s achieved, I think it’s a cool step. A lot of people said maybe it’s not the right thing to do, and so forth. But, yeah, I would probably do the same if I was in his position, you know.

“So, it looks cool, it’s good. It’s an amazing story for him. And, yeah, I know he’s going to want to go there with a fresh mindset and show everyone that he’s still got the he showed for many, many years prior.”

If and continue on their 2024 trajectories, Norris and Hamilton are set for several scintillating on-track battles. The Woking-based squad pipped the seven-time world champion’s new employers to the Constructors’ Championship title by just a handful of points in Abu Dhabi.

Hamilton has previously expressed his admiration for the Bristol-born driver’s wheel-to-wheel racing skills, praising Norris over the team radio at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix and labelling him “such a great driver”.

Norris is excited for more battles with ’s new start in 2025. “It’s the same when you’re on track with anyone,” he said. “There’s always guys you give extra metres to, and there’s guys that you know you can race well, and Lewis is one of those guys.

“So, hopefully, I’m excited to race against him more this year. It’s always an honour to race against someone like him, and always something I’m excited for. And I want to prove myself. He obviously wants to prove himself, like he will continue to do and fight until he stops in Formula One.”
