“Daily Show” correspondent Jordan Klepper said Elon Musk’s White House press conference with President Donald Trump contained more than a few awkward moments as he tried to explain his Department of Government Efficiency, which has slashed government programs.
Musk said this week it was “incredibly important that the president, the House and the Senate decide what happens, as opposed to a large unelected bureaucracy.”
Klepper spotted an immediate flaw with that logic.
“Wow! I mean you see why this guy’s a genius,” he said. “You don’t want an unelected bureaucrat running the country. It makes a lotta sense. No questions here. I do have one question, though: Isn’t that you?”
Musk, as Klepper notes, wasn’t elected.
“Am I going crazy? Because it feels like I’m watching Drake sing ‘Not Like Us’ at karaoke,” he said. “Does he not know?”
Klepper said at least other government bureaucrats have to follow transparency rules, while Musk’s DOGE is exempt from open records laws. Musk has even attacked those who’ve named the members of his task force, disabling their accounts on X and saying they’ve “committed a crime.”
“So, Elon, I gotta tell you: I don’t think you’re being that transparent,” Klepper said.
Musk has claimed otherwise, insisting he is “maximally transparent.” Klepper rolled a clip of Musk saying he expects “a daily proctology exam” via the scrutiny he receives.
“Well, I did the exam,” Klepper said. “And what an asshole!”
