Former ‘SNL’ Star Says Barbra Streisand Tried To Confront Her About Her Impression

Former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Laraine Newman once did an impersonation of Barbra Streisand that left quite an impression on the screen legend.

But not necessarily a good one, Newman admitted recently to Bravo’s Andy Cohen.

Back in 1977, Newman performed a musical parody of Streisand called “Me” that mocked the singer’s ego and massive paychecks with lyrics like, “Even if one of my films sucks, it still makes 4 million bucks for me.”

Newman said after the sketch aired she ended up at a bar mitzvah for her friend’s son where Streisand was singing.

Newman recalled that although Streisand apparently hadn’t seen the sketch, the singer came up to her and said, “I want to talk to you.”

But Newman never found out if Streisand had a beef with her bit.

“I left,” she said. “I didn’t want to talk to her.”

Other former “SNL” female cast members also dished on the reaction real celebs had to their impressions.

Cheri Oteri admitted Judge Judy threw the book at her portrayal.

“She called my manager — ‘Tell Cheri, your client, she’s almost got me,’” Oteri remembered.

Meanwhile, Cecily Strong said that Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro tried to arrange a lunch date with her a couple of times.

“I was busy,” Strong drolly added.

Ana Gasteyer has gotten some favorable reactions from the celebs she’s parodied on “SNL.”

“Martha Stewart and Celine [Dion] were both super-gracious,” she said. “Jo Anne Worley left a message on my NBC voicemail. It was the greatest: ‘This is Jo Anne Worley. I just loved the show.’”
