Coronation Street star faces brutal backlash after Gino D’Acampo comments

Former star Vicky Entwistle, who is best known for playing the role of on ITV’s cobbles, who publicly backed after recent allegations of “inappropriate beaviour” has admitted she has been shocked by the negative reaction to her remarks.

Taking to X where she reposted her original words she wrote: “Genuinely shocked at the response to my comment. I stick by every word. Unless a woman is sexually assaulted in the work place there is nothing but hurty words. Are we to cry for that? This man was built up to be everything on his tin, they can’t suddenly change it to suit a trend.”

On Februry 10 . The text accompanying it showed her support for the under fire star.

“I don’t know this man personally, therefore I have no reason to stick my neck out in his defence,” she wrote. “BUT!! ITV played that man for all he was worth… cheeky, naughty, foreign, hilarious!! It all fitted in 10 years ago… Now with a new WOKE agenda they crucify him?!?”

Her sentiment at the time was the subject of much backlash from her followers who disagreed with her remarks. However her response to the criticism fared better as she received support from many who took to the comments to share their thoughts.

“Totally agree Vicky. I know he was a bit of a naughty boy when he first moved to London, but that was 20+ years ago and we all make mistakes. He had a family to provide for. I get the impression a lot of these anonymous trolls who are in a permanent state of offended are just sad, lonely and jealous individuals by nature and seem to get a kick on persecuting someone,” one wrote.

A second concurred writing: “I agree. Gino has never been any different. ‘Carry On’ type humour has always been a part of everything he does. ITV are a joke & a bad one at that. What on earth has happened to them.” A third chimed in: “Totally agree in my day we all used to joke around but no touching just a laugh and as far as I’m concerned the TV was happy to show him naked in his apron they encouraged him.”

However another follower wasn’t convinced telling Vikcy: “But nobody knows if all the complaints relate to ‘hurty words’ do they? There are multiple complaints being investigated by several organisations.”

Gino has “firmly denied” all allegations which include the usage of sexualised and hostile language on set with his alleged behaviour being described as “unacceptable, distressing and horrendous”.

He issued a statement to News on February 7 denying the allegations: “I have been told by ITN news that allegations have been made about me acting inappropriately, some dating back over 10 years ago.

“I have never been made aware of these matters previously and the allegations are firmly denied. I would not do anything that I thought would upset or distress anyone. This is simply not in my nature. I do not recognise the version of events being put to me.

“Not only have these allegations never been raised with me before, I have been repeatedly supported by executives at the highest level and was commissioned on prime-time programmes during the period in which it is now suggested I was acting inappropriately.

“I am a father, husband and have worked with well over 1,500 people on around 80 productions in my career, which I have been so proud of. I take such matters extremely seriously and the suggestion that I have acted in an improper way against is deeply upsetting,” he said.
