Warning as UK Foreign Office issues new ‘until April 30’ travel alert

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) has issued a warning to certain travellers who will need to act by April 30.

The Government’s foreign affairs department regularly updates its information for travel to more than 200 countries and territories in a bid to keep Brits safe and on Wednesday, the FCDO took to X to issue a new alert. The post explained that travel guidance for has now been amended. New information on Gov.uk reads: “If you overstay your visa, you may face fines, court hearings, deportation or a ban from re-entry.

“From 1 January 2025 until 30 April 30 2025, foreign nationals who have exceeded the terms of their legal stay in need to apply to the Russian internal affairs authorities to regularize their stay or leave . The application process includes biometric checks, medical screening for dangerous diseases, drugs and psychoactive substances tests, and checks for any outstanding payments of duties, taxes, fees, fines, and other mandatory payments.

“After 30 April 2025 anyone without the necessary permits or visa will be entered on an official surveillance register, deported from , and banned from re-entering.”

The FCDO continues to advise against “all but essential” travel to “due to the risks and threats from its continuing invasion of , including security incidents, such as drone attacks, and Russian air defence activity lack of flights to return to the UK limited ability for the UK government to provide support”.
