Over half of the UK is set to be covered in snow, new weather maps show.
have turned dark purple, indicating that heavy snow is on its way in just a matter of days.
The heavy snow is set to hit in the early hours of Sunday, February 16, with Dumfries, Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Stirling all predicted to see the brunt of this wintry weather. These areas could all see up to 2cm of snow fall per hour.
Up to 1cm of snow is predicted in Yorkshire and the Humber alongside the North West. By 6am weather maps predict the snow would have spread into the Scottish Highlands and into parts of the North East.

Millions of people across the country could draw back their curtains and uncover snow as by 9am the latest big freeze is expected to really take hold of the UK with snow blanketing Britain from Ullapool in Scotland all the way down to Nottingham.
Key cities including Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, York , Liverpool, Glasgow and Leeds will all be covered in snow.
Predicted to see the brunt of the weather is the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber and North East where 2cm of snow could fall every hour.
The snow bomb is predicted to completely cover Scotland, the southern parts of the country are likely to be the worst hit with 1.5 of snow predicted.
The Scottish Highlands will see snowflakes fall but on a lesser scale, 0.6cm of snow is likely per hour here.

Wales, London, the South West and South East will all escape the snowfall. However, parts of south, mid and north Wales will be hit by heavy rainfall at 6am these downpours will then spread to the South East by 9am where 1mm could fall every hour.
Separately, in the ‘s weather outlook for this period the forecaster is warning that “there is a chance of even colder conditions developing temporarily, which would see more wintry showers, especially in northeastern areas”.
Over the next couple of days it will remain “rather cloudy with patchy rain and hill snow at times”, a “cold easterly breeze” will also continue.
