Two in three Brits say a compliment can turn a bad week into a good one

A recent poll has revealed that a sincere compliment could brighten someones day, with 68% of 2,000 adults agreeing that kind words have the power to transform a bad week.

Brits cherish simple phrases such as “I appreciate you”, “you are so kind”, and “you are a great friend”.

After hearing these compliments a staggering 83% feel valued, 50% feel appreciated, and for 42% it puts them in a brighter mood.

According to the research, three quarters of those polled think a simple compliment carries more weight than over the top praise.

Although compliments from strangers and colleagues are welcome, an interesting 8% hold those from their mother-in-law in high regard while friends’ compliments trump those from romantic partners.

Women often view compliments from partners with scepticism, instead favouring authenticity from other women, with 66% finding these more genuine and 43% more heartfelt.

This research was done to celebrate Gü’s latest initiative a billboard for the release of ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary: Mad About the Boy’, designed to dish out compliments to passersby.

Situated in Borough Yards until Saturday, and just a stone’s throw from Bridget Jones’s iconic flat in Borough Market, the billboard is equipped with clever motion sensors that activate personalized compliments echoing phrases from beloved characters like Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver.

Charlotte Brown of Gü , whose brand will be dishing out free dessert samples at the innovative complimenting billboard, shared: “We’re bringing the feel-good factor to life with our pop-up complimenting billboard.
