Rep. Maxine Dexter (D-Ore.) seemingly messed up her insult aimed at President Donald Trump during a rally for federal workers on Tuesday.

“I don’t swear in public very well, but we have to fuck Trump,” Dexter said, which was met with applause. “Please don’t tell my children that I just did that.”

Lawmakers spoke at Upper Senate Park on the U.S. Capitol grounds to federal workers, union members and labor activists at the American Federation of Government Employees’ rally to urge Congress to protect civil service jobs and push back on politicizing federal jobs.

The rally comes after the Trump administration sent out a memo saying that federal workers could be stripped for their civil service protections this year. Earlier this month, Trump said he planned to nullify federal employee union contracts because they were meant “to harm my administration.”

Several lawmakers spoke at the rally, including Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.), who spoke before Dexter. He ended his short speech, declaring, “Fuck Trump.”

Dexter followed Norcross, saying that there was “absolutely no way” she could follow “that mic-drop” moment from Norcross. With only 30 seconds to speak, Dexter exclaimed that “we have to fuck Trump.” Dexter’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Dexter then went on to speak about the Stop Musk Act, which she introduced last week as her first bill since taking office in January. She said the bill is to protect federal employees from retaliation “for preventing, resisting and circumventing Elon Musk’s unlawful actions.”

Billionaire Elon Musk has recently taken control of the government through his non-Cabinet department, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, which aims to cut government spending. Last week, DOGE accessed sensitive data in the Treasury Department. The access was then blocked by a federal judge, but Musk and Trump have defended Musk’s role in the government. On Tuesday, Musk, who has not been elected to office by Americans, spoke from the Oval Office and said, “The people voted for major government reform and that’s what the people are going to get,” and “That’s what democracy is all about.”
