Do you reckon you could identify the sound of an egg frying, butter being spread on toast, or a nacho crunching just by listening?
Put your auditory skills to the test with this tantalising quiz and see if your ears are as finely tuned to food sounds as your taste buds are to flavours.
Don’t miss…
This fun challenge was commissioned by Quorn in celebration of their new Cheesy Nacho Nuggs. It comes after a study of 2,000 adults revealed that food-related sounds make people feel content (40%), hungry (37%), and warm (28%).
The research also uncovered that the most satisfying kitchen noise is ice cubes dropping into a drink, followed by hot food sizzling in a pan, butter spreading on toast, and melted cheese bubbling away.
Gill Riley, spokesperson for the meat substitute brand, commented: “Our kitchen is the heartbeat of most homes, all year round it is filled with sounds and smells that we love, and even more so around Valentine’s Day.”
“The crunch, pop or crisp of foods helps inspire what people reach for as a snack or cook up for a family meal.”
Can you name all of these sounds correctly?
Interestingly, nearly half of the respondents believe that certain foods taste better due to the sounds they make while cooking.
And it turns out that 21% have indulged in certain foods purely for the pleasure of the sounds they make while eating, with crisps, pancakes, and stir-fries being among the top choices.
In addition to the auditory delights, the survey also uncovered the most beloved kitchen aromas, with the scent of freshly baked bread taking the top spot at 63%, closely followed by the invigorating smell of brewed coffee at 49%.
Interestingly, a quarter of respondents admitted to watching ASMR food-related content on social media, with 44% finding it satisfying and 41% discovering it to be a relaxing experience.
Gill Riley commented: “The nation loves listening to and watching food content on social media, proving how satisfying the concept of a good crunch is when biting into a nugget.
“It’s interesting to see how much influence all the senses have on what we eat.”
