Northern Lights to be visible over UK tonight – exact time and locations

The has released a map showing where you can expect to see the tonight as they are set to dazzle stargazers in the UK.

On Tuesday, the illuminated the skies over Scotland, and experts from the predict that tonight at 8pm will offer another great opportunity for seeing them.

There will be a 90% chance of seeing the lights in the UK.

“Cloudy skies mean limited viewing opportunities for most of us, but with clearer skies in northern and western Scotland, there’s a much better chance here.”

The predicted the lights would be visible from 7pm and is expected to peak at around 8pm.

The map then shows that these will fade away from 11pm to 1am tonight.

Many stargazers saw last night’s Northern Lights in Scotland with the best sightings captured in the Shetland Islands and the north-west of Scotland which were caused by increased solar activity.

The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, are usually visible in Iceland, Canada, Finland and Norway but this evening, this phenomenon could be seen in the UK tonight and tomorrow night.

Compared to other years, 2024 saw a significant increase in Northern Lights being observed in the UK.

The lights will also be able to be seen tomorrow on February 13.

We are currently experiencing the peak of the 11-year solar cycle, which is characterised by heightened solar activity which leads to an increase in activity boosts and in the likelihood of the Northern Lights being visible in the UK.

The best places to see the Northern lights is usually in Scotland, North England, North Wales and Northern Ireland and your chances of seeing these will be increased if the sky is clear of clouds and light pollution.
