Weeks after her much-scrutinized appearance at President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Lauren Sánchez is in a contemplative mood.
On Monday, the author and former news anchor ― who is engaged to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos ― offered a cryptic take on her 2025 thus far with an Instagram photo of herself piloting what appears to be a small aircraft.
“Some years start with turbulence, but that’s just the wind reminding you to spread your wings,” she wrote in the accompanying caption. “Good to be back in the air…Here’s to flying farther than we ever imagined.”
Sánchez’s allusion to “turbulence” could, of course, be interpreted any number of ways. However, many were quick to interpret her comment as a nod to the backlash she received from both ends of the political spectrum for her lacy ensemble at Trump’s Jan. 20 swearing-in.
No stranger to skin-baring designs, Sánchez attended the event in a white Alexander McQueen pantsuit. Her blazer featured a plunging neckline from which the top of her push-up corset bra was visible.
Among the many conservative figures who blasted what was described as Sánchez’s “lingerie-inspired” look was former Fox News host Megyn Kelly, who wrote on X: “She has no class. No dignity. No respect.”
Photos and video showing Sánchez seated beside Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who appeared to be glancing down at her chest, quickly went viral.
Sánchez has not publicly commented on the criticism her outfit received. Days after the inauguration, however, she responded to an Instagram video posted by comedian Whitney Cummings, who lightly defended the look as something that “looks cute in a mirror” but doesn’t photograph well.
In the comments, Sánchez shared a red heart emoji, but nothing more.
By Tuesday, Sánchez’s Instagram post had received more than 7,500 likes and drawn a plethora of comments from some of her celebrity pals. One of those comments came from singer-songwriter Jewel, who angered fans with an appearance at another of Trump’s inaugural events.

“Fly high above the noise is the reminder I need,” the four-time Grammy nominee wrote.
