ITV The Chase’s Anne Hegerty reveals surprising ITV wage

sensation , renowned as The Governess on screen, has shed light on the unexpected payment structure of the hit quiz show.

At 66 years old, Hegerty boasts an estimated fortune of £3.2 million, accrued through the show’s triumph. Yet, she disclosed that their income is not guaranteed, as chasers don’t receive a steady salary.

Speaking at the TV Choice Awards on Monday, Anne shared candid insights with the Mirror, emphasizing a key concern amongst her fellow chasers regarding team expansion.

When quizzed on the potential introduction of another quiz mastermind, she responded: “Well we do always hope not.”

Delving into the financial logistics, the I’m a Celeb alum elaborated: “We are paid per show, so we’re not on a salary. It’s not as if they’re going to up the budget and add a new salary, a new chaser would just mean the same number of shows shared between more people – so less money for everyone. So, hope not!” reports .

Although a new colleague could mean thinner pay cheques, Anne maintained her collegial spirit, speaking warmly about Darragh Ennis, the newest addition to the chaser lineup since 2020, a decade after her own debut.

“You know, Darragh has been a very good new addition, he’s very popular, and that’s worthwhile,” she commended.

Anne Hegerty spilled some behind-the-scenes secrets about the close-knit group of The Chase’s trivia titans, acknowledging their friendly ties despite their competitive edge. “We know each other, and certainly on Beat the Chasers we tend to hang out a lot, because we’re all there at the same time,” she shared.

Financial details from August 2023 show that while Anne does not receive a fixed income from The Chase, her company, Frosty Knickers Ltd, boasted more than £807,000 in the bank.

Even with a significant asset base, Anne confided in an interview with the Mirror last November about her penchant for thriftiness:.

“I’m half Scottish. We don’t spend money and, being a fat person, I can only buy from certain places,” she quipped, laughing off her spending habits. “I like my money sitting in my bank and representing a bit of security. I don’t see the point in sloshing money around. I’m not frugal, I’d actually say I’m mean.”

Anne also reflected on an earlier time when she juggled journalism and mounting admin work while on benefits a stark contrast to her current fiscal stability, illustrating her prudence and knack for economising.

The quiz show veteran may indulge in certain comforts, such as splitting her residence between Manchester and Watford for convenience in attending TV gigs, flying first class or business for travel, and enjoying ‘Club Med’ retreats during quiz-related trips abroad.
