These two drinks have gone viral in recent years, with claims that they help people shed weight, but they are also known to impact the tooth’s enamel.

When asked: “You’re a doctor and what would you never do?”, Dr Hargreave answered that he would never drink lemon water or in the morning.

He further explained: “A lot of people think you can do this to strip some extra kilos off but what it does is it actually strips the enamel off your teeth.

“If you’re doing this every morning, over time it can really damage your teeth”.

Both lemon water and apple cider vinegar are highly acidic, making them prone to causing tooth decay and sensitivity.

Apple cider vinegar typically has a pH level between 2.5 and 3, making it strong enough to erode the protective enamel layer on your teeth directly.

The acidic nature of both drinks in the morning could also dissolve and break down the mineral structure of enamel overtime.

There’s a greater erosion risk which over time exposes the more sensitive dentin layer.

As enamel erodes, a person’s teeth are known to experience increased sensitivity to both cold and hot temperatures.

Instead, the best type of drink to consume in the morning to keep your teeth healthy is of course, milk.

Other less invasive drinks for your teeth include water or unsweetened green tea.
