Give your old Kindle to Amazon to get the ultimate upgrade at its lowest ever price

If you have been thinking of getting a new e-reader then . Amazon’s latest premium Kindle, the Kindle Scribe, is currently since its launch in December, but there’s a way to shave another 20 percent off that today.

The 16GB Amazon Kindle Scribe with Premium Pen is currently £309.99 from Amazon, down from the bundle’s usual £379.99 retail price. But, if you have a Kindle currently, you can trade-in and get an instant extra 20 percent off the sale price, which brings the Kindle Scribe down to a much more palatable £247.99.

As Amazon price tracking site shows, £309.99 is the lowest the Scribe has ever been sold for, so this extra discount makes the device even cheaper. You also don’t need Amazon Prime to get this offer.

All you have to do is and click where it says “Save 20% with Trade-In”. This brings up a pop up that shows all the Kindle devices currently associated with your Amazon account, so if you want to trade in a Kindle for the 20 percent discount, make sure you’re shopping on the same Amazon account your current Kindle is signed into.

From this screen you will be shown your current Kindle alongside how much Amazon will give you on an Amazon Gift Card if you trade in. Amazingly, that is in addition to the 20 percent discount on the Kindle Scribe. It seems as though trading in any Kindle of any age in any condition will get you 20 percent off a new Kindle, but the amount Amazon will give you in gift card credit depends on the age of your current Kindle.

Once you’ve selected the Kindle to trade in, you will be sent a free UPS shipping label to your email address, which you can print and use to send your current Kindle off. You won’t have to wait till Amazon receives it to get your gift card or 20 percent off a new Kindle though – Amazon says your account will be instantly credited with the gift card total, and 20 percent off the Kindle Scribe will be automatically applied at checkout if you add the Scribe to your basket and go to pay.

If you don’t send your old Kindle to Amazon, the firm can directly charge your account with the gift card amount or any money you saved with the 20 percent off, so don’t try to cheat the system!

Though this sounds like a faff, it’s relatively easy if you’re signed into your Amazon account when you start the process. It could also be worth it to get your hands on the Kindle Scribe, Amazon’s most advanced Kindle ever with a large display for reading all your eBooks as well as an included pen to write notes directly in any eBook or PDF.

You can also create plain notebooks and use the Scribe as an all-in-one reading and writing tool.

Amazon it is bringing new AI features to the Scribe in the UK via a free software update, so the device will soon be able to summarise your notes into short lists or even tidy up your messy handwriting into something more legible.

You’ll also be able to take notes in the margins of eBooks as well as expand and collapse them. This is a little different to being able to write directly on the page as if it were an actual book; the Kindle instead uses movable and sizable boxes that the text then fits around.
