Actress Josephine Jobert, who is best known for playing DS Florence Cassell on Death in Paradise, reached out to her former co-star Shantol Jackson with a sweet, encouraging message.
Following Shantol’s recent appearance on ‘s The One Show, Josephine, who departed from the long-running drama during series 13, expressed her admiration for her performance.
Taking to , she wrote: “My queen! You also carry the show so well. Proud of you!”
Josephine’s heartfelt message was a response to Shantol, who had praised Don Gilet, the new lead detective actor, for his seamless integration into the show.
Shantol, who plays DS Naomi Thomas in the hit show, sang his praises and said: “He’s a really good number one. He carries the show well. He cares about the characters and he cares about the story, so it’s good fun on set with Don.”

When questioned on what it has been like to adapt to a new lead since the departure of actor Ralf Little, who played detective inspector Neville Parker, she continued and said: “It’s fine actually. I think the main thing for us was to ensure that Don felt comfortable because it’s not about any one person.
“Death in Paradise is a massive show. I didn’t even realise how big the show is and so we realised we need him to feel comfortable to get everyone to still love the show and so that was the main thing for us.”
She also shared how quick former star Don was quick to adapt to his new role.
The actress shared:”Two weeks into filming the Christmas special he was fine. We have great banter on and off the set. Don is really fun to work with.”

During the latest Death in Paradise episode, Don’s character, DI Mervin, accepts a three-month contract with the Saint Marie police to investigate his mother’s mysterious death.
In a separate interview on ITV’s Lorraine, Gilet shared insights about his character’s journey, revealing that Mervin’s storyline will add a new dynamic to season 14, setting it apart from previous seasons.
He told Lorraine: “I think what is different about this one is that there is an arc. There is a personal journey that is going on with the detective because he is originally there to find his mother.
“He has to stay there in this place. He has tried to leave. He has all that struggle going on and he doesn’t like these people because he doesn’t want to be there.”
