Comedian and TV star Joel McHale caused a scene on the red carpet at the Sports Illustrated Super Bowl party in New Orleans this weekend, just ahead of the Philadelphia Eagles’ stunning victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
But it wasn’t football that had him making headlines—it was his reaction to a question about his appearance.
The Community actor, 52, arrived at the star-studded event wearing jeans and a long-sleeved blue top with striped sleeves and sporting seemingly lighter locks.
This led reporters to ask about his look. But McHale was not in the mood to discuss it.
In a tense exchange, McHale initially refused to take the microphone when asked to do the interview. Then he abruptly grabbed the mic from the interviewer and stepped over the red carpet ropes. He then proceeded to ask questions to all the reporters himself and boast about his new projects.

Shortly after, he refused interviews from other press —leaving reporters stunned as he headed into the party.
Questions about his appearance follow the star’s admission in a podcast interview with Justin Long in 2020, where he revealed that he’d had three hair transplants. “I’d be totally bald. We’re not all born with gorgeous thick hair like you,” Joel said, noting that he started losing his hair when he was a teenager. “Three surgeries later, look at my hair! The technology is bananas now.”
Sports Illustrated’s SI The Party during Super Bowl weekend in New Orleans was a star-studded affair, featuring live performances by renowned DJs Dom Dolla and Diplo, held at the historic Mardi Gras World.
The ritzy bash was part of a series of high-profile events leading up to Super Bowl LIX, which featured the Kansas City Chiefs facing the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome.

The weekend’s festivities included performances by artists like Post Malone and Travis Scott.
McHale has been announced as the new host for the second season of The 1% Club, a game show that challenges contestants with logic-based puzzles. He takes over from Patton Oswalt, who hosted the inaugural season.
The multi-talented star recently shared his next exciting project on alongside NFL stars Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady.
Gronkowski is set to make a guest appearance on McHale’s hit sitcom Animal Control. In the upcoming episode, McHale’s character, Frank, along with the Animal Control team, assists Gronkowski in wrangling animals, as Tom Brady watched them on an iPad and criticizes their technique.
