Iconic 70s legend suffers brain tumour as bedridden star in tragic plea amid cancer battle

David Johansen, the former lead singer of the legendary punk band New York Dolls, has revealed his battle with stage four cancer.

The co-founder and punk icon’s stepdaughter Leah Hennessey, shared the diagnosis in a Sweet Relief fundraiser for her father’s medical expenses.

The 75-year-old seeking to raise money for his treatment and ongoing care.

Speaking about the extent of his health issues, she said, “Five years ago at the beginning of the pandemic we discovered that David’s cancer had progressed and he had a brain tumor.

“There have been complications ever since. He’s never made his diagnosis public, as he and my mother Mara are generally very private people, but we feel compelled to share this now, due to the increasingly severe financial burden our family is facing.”
