Bayern will travel to but the Bavarian club won’t be donning their scarlet red home shirt – despite there being no obvious clash of colours.
According to reports, Bayern have been instructed by UEFA that they cannot wear the shirt in continental competition due to the lettering on the player jerseys. The European football governing body reportedly claim that the ‘dark numbers on the jersey’ do not ‘offer enough contrast for viewers’ watching in the stadium or on TV, per the Daily Mail.
This is nothing new for the German side, who were forced to wear their all-white strip when facing Slovan Bratislava in their final league phase fixture on January 29, which they won 3-1.
However, the club have been informed that their red shirt will be reinstated if they agree to use a lighter colour to make the letters and digits more distinguishable.
Vincent Kompany’s side only managed to qualify for the play-offs after finishing 12th in the league phase of the competition’s new format, meaning they would be pitted against another play-off finisher in Celtic.
Bayern will be heading into the tie in a confident mood, having won their last four matches in all competitions. scored twice from the spot in a 3-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday to send them eight points clear at the top of the Bundesliga.

“I have never played at Celtic Park. But I’ve heard a lot about the great atmosphere. It will be a challenging game for us,” Kane said.
“I’m on a good run with scoring penalties. But a miss can happen – it’s happened before. I have various options that I can use when I am taking a penalty.”

Ahead of the match, manager Brendan Rogers said: “It’ll be an amazing game to look forward to. We earned the right to play the game so we’ll have 60,000 super-charged souls in here on Wednesday night and I can’t wait for it.”
He added: “It’s a big test for us, a big challenge but we’ll look to bring our very best game and see what happens.”
