A young family’s idyllic countryside getaway quickly turned into a holiday from hell after they discovered bloody carpets and graphic sex toys at their rental house.
Dad-of-four Paul Norris, who gave a pseudonym to protect his identity, was shocked to arrive at the £300-a-night home in Northern Ireland for a week’s break to discover a horror movie scene all throughout the five-bedroom property.
The master bedroom was packed full of sex toys and bondage gear, as well as boasting loose medication and a blood-stained mattress – and the other rooms weren’t much better, he told .
“We quickly moved the children into the kitchen, where we found an open bottle of nicotine vape liquid on a worktop, and checked the other bedside cabinet and wardrobe,” Mr Norris said.
“These contained even more items including ropes, whips, penis enlargers, handcuffs and opened tubes of lubricant.”

Amid more dirty furniture and mouldy food, Mr Norris contacted the homeowner, who admitted he hadn’t cleaned the house because his dog had been shot by police after biting someone.
In yet another bizarre turn, when the father-of-four reached out to Vrbo for a refund, he was told that the problems were “minor” and didn’t qualify him to have his money returned.
Photos of the house eventually convinced Vrbo workers, however, and offered to pay for the family to move into a nearby hotel. They turned it down and instead shelled out £2,000 for another holiday home.
The booking costs were ultimately refunded and Vrbo also paid the family £1,000 in compensation.

It offered little comfort to the family at the time, however, and the hellish property – as well as the difficult process of relocation – “completely ruined our trip”, Mr Norris said.
“The extent of what we found in that house was surreal and we felt trapped by the lack of support,” he added.
“I was forced to spend hours during the first three days of the holiday stuck on the phone – mostly on hold – to Vrbo, the host and my bank.”
A spokesperson for Vrbo said they “take the health and safety of guests very seriously”. “We regularly assess our policies and our health and safety team is currently re-investigating this case,” they added.
