Police were called to Lea Avenue and Dogwood Street on Monday morning by several persons who had heard gunfire.
One person has been injured following a drive-by shooting in the Burquitlam-area on Monday morning.
According to Coquitlam RCMP Supt. Darren Carr, several persons reported gunfire in the area of Lea Avenue and Dogwood Street at around 9:15 a.m.
“Police located one adult suffering from gunshot injuries who was transported to hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries,” Carr said.
The gunshot victim was in a vehicle that was later pictured being looked at by police at the scene.
“Subsequent to the incident, a motor vehicle collision ensued with a nearby vehicle, however no significant injuries were sustained” by anyone in that vehicle, Carr said.
Shortly after the shooting and crash, the Burnaby RCMP responded to a vehicle fire. Such fires are a hallmark of gang shootings in Metro Vancouver.
“Investigators are working closely to determine if the two incidents are related,” Carr said.
“This brazen daytime shooting is concerning, and such incidents will not be tolerated in our communities.”
