A dreamy riverside restaurant has been listed among the most romantic spots for a meal in the UK.
York-based The Star Inn The City has proved popular with diners for its romantic setting on the River Ouse.
It has been featured in OpenTable’s top 100 romantic restaurants for 2025, a list compiled based on customer reviews and ratings.
The Star Inn The City consistently receives five-star ratings for its ambience, which is hardly surprising given its picturesque riverside location.
The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating options, allowing diners to enjoy al fresco meals by the river.

Since opening in 2013, this modern British restaurant has become a cherished part of York’s culinary scene, winning numerous awards.
Current menu highlights include eight-hour braised ox cheek, roast breast of Yorkshire Wold’s chicken, chargrilled 10oz Sirloin Steak and chargrilled Hispi Cabbage.
For those with a sweet tooth, there are plenty of tempting desserts and a Sunday lunch menu, reports .

A description by the eatery on the reviews website said: “Located in the Old Engine House on the edge of York’s Museum Gardens in a riverside setting close to the historic Lendal Bridge, The Star Inn The City has an enviable position, which we aim to match with the best produce God’s Own Country has to offer and genuine Yorkshire hospitality for the ‘whole package’.
“We pride ourselves on being a a food-led celebration destination, with guests being able to enjoy view of the River Ouse from our Garden Room or outside on our riverside terrace.
“For more intimate occasions we also offer two exclusive Private Dining rooms for celebrations such as graduations, weddings and birthdays.”
The restaurant has been praised by diners on OpenTable, with one saying: “Lovely place, staff were very friendly and the food was WOW.”
Another said: “The venue was beautiful, in a lovely location right on the water. The tables all had a lovely view, and the wait staff were lovely.”
