“Bathrooms are naturally humid spaces, making them a breeding ground for mould,” explained Toward. “Sealant around baths and showers is particularly vulnerable due to constant exposure to water and soap residue.”

Toward said: “Over time, even high-quality sealant can develop cracks, allowing moisture to seep in and create the perfect conditions for mould to thrive.”

He added that mould isn’t just an eyesore, it can also release allergens into the air, triggering respiratory issues, allergies and asthma attacks if left untreated.

Brian recommends mixing a teaspoon of tea tree oil with a cup of water in a spray bottle. He said: “Shake well, spray onto the mould, and leave it to dry naturally. Tea tree oil not only kills mould but also prevents regrowth due to its antifungal properties.”
