come in many varieties with flowers that can be white, cream, yellow, green and pink.

White is the most common colour for these elegant plants, recognisable for their curved blooms on long green stalks.

Sizeable green leaves are another , a telling indicator of the plant’s overall health.

Dobbie’s Senior Buyer, Claire Bishop, explained that while houseplants are generally easy to care for, owners must ensure the right light and humidity.

Otherwise, they risk raising a droopy, lacklustre plant that stands out for all the wrong reasons.

Claire told : “Spathiphyllums, or peace lilies, are a popular choice thanks to their beautiful appearance and low maintenance.

“Air purifying, these plants are a great addition to homes in winter to make spaces feel fresher, and they come in a variety of sizes to suit all spaces.”

Peace lilies will make it known if something is wrong, says Claire, and she urged plant owners to consider moving the plant to support its recovery.

“She explained: “If you notice your plant’s leaves starting to droop, it’s telling you that it needs a drink, and you can give it a mist to keep it hydrated”.

It Is important to mist very lightly in the winter, but you can do this more liberally in the summer.

Claire said: “Peace lilies can tolerate varying levels of light, making them ideal for most spots in your home, but they do best in bright, indirect light.

“A light-filled bathroom is a perfect spot for most peace lilies as they’ll thrive in the humidity.”

Most bathrooms have frosted glass, which creates optimal conditions for these elegant blooms. The glass lets in light while reducing the amount that passes through.

Another advantage of keeping peace lilies in the bathroom is that they don’t need to be watered as often.

Naturally humid spaces retain moisture, which is good news for some houseplants. Snake plants, spider plants, and ferns also do well in humid rooms.

Claire concluded: “Peace lilies flourish in low light and generally only requiring water only when the top layer of soil feels dry to the touch.”
