Christian Eriksen has been told to leave Manchester United by Danish compatriot Peter Schmeichel after falling out of favour under . The 32-year playmaker is widely expected to depart once his contract expires at the end of the season amid no talk of an extension.
Eriksen enjoyed a fruitful start to the season under , the manager who brought him to Old Trafford on a free transfer in 2022.
He scored four goals and provided three assists across the first four Carabao Cup and Europa League games of the campaign.
However, opportunities have been limited since Amorim took charge in November, especially in the Premier League.
Eriksen has spent eight of Amorim’s 13 league games as boss as an unused substitute or away from the squad altogether. He has started just twice.
While his summer exit is likely, it isn’t yet confirmed. However, Schmeichel has publicly urged his fellow Dane to pursue a new challenge later this year.
“That [move to Ajax] would be a great step for him,” Schmeichel told .
“Of course, as we know, he is a midfielder. Nowadays, in the Premier League, you need players who can sprint up and down for 90 minutes.

“The way wants to play also doesn’t suit him. He wants to win the ball back quickly at a very high pace. That’s not in his nature. Unfortunately, Eriksen no longer has that energy.
“He’s a great player. Some of the things he does on the field… He’s still so good on the ball and technically. I think Ajax would be a fantastic move for him.”
Eriksen is set to be among a host of high-profile exits from Old Trafford this summer at the start of Amorim’s mammoth rebuild.
Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Casemiro and Antony are among the names in the shop window. Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are also coming to the end of their contracts.
Meanwhile, will be obliged to pay up to £25million to sign Jadon Sancho permanently at the end of his loan.
Aston Villa have a £40m option to buy in Marcus Rashford’s loan deal. Even if the 27-year-old doesn’t remain at Villa Park, he is almost certain to move elsewhere.
Amorim is bound to use the funds recouped from sales to recruit players who fit the style of play he is attempting to instil at Old Trafford.
United are primed to target a new centre-back, central midfielder, right-wing-back and striker at the very least.
