If wasn’t expecting an expensive summer transfer window, he might have to think again.
After backing to the tune of £180million in the summer 2024 window, Ratcliffe and co. opted to pull the plug on the Dutchman’s reign just three months into the new season.
It’s left the squad in need of major surgery, given several players brought in to work with Ten Hag don’t suit new manager ’s play style.
But if that wasn’t bad enough, Ratcliffe will also have to get his chequebook out to sanction deals for three senior players whose contracts are set to expire at the end of the season.
All three of Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Christian Eriksen are coming towards the end of their contracts, with the trio looking unlikely to pen new deals before the start of next season.
While Lindelof, Evans and Eriksen are by no means key members of the United squad, the three have been useful squad players and if they were to leave, they’d need to be replaced and likely at a cost.
Specific targets are unlikely to be known until the summer, but United could expect to splash upwards of £100m on rumoured options like Douglas Luiz, Giorgio Scalvini and Marc Guehi – a trio valued at £37m each on Transfermarkt.
That’s without any other transfer moves United may have to make in the off-season, most notably adding a new striker to their ranks after disappointing returns from the likes of and Joshua Zirkzee.

That’s if Amorim even makes it as far as the summer, with pressure starting to mount on the Portuguese tactician following a difficult start to life in the dugout.

Reacting to United’s performance at half-time while they were 1-0 down, he told ITV Sport: “It’s shocking. Really, really poor. You start looking at this United team, at all the stats, no shot on target, I think two shots on target against Crystal Palace.
“They’re actually boring now. You feel like you should go into that dressing room and remind the players what the game is about.
“There’s a goal at that end [pointing] you’ve got to put the ball in the back of the net. It’s as if they’re not even aware of it.”
