Inside Unforgotten star Sinead Keenan’s life from marriage to famous family

Unforgotten is back with ITV and once again Sinéad Keenan and Sanjeev Bhaskar are leading a murder mystery as Jess James and Sunny Khan. As the series continues, the Bishop Street team investigate Gerry Cooper’s record.

As Jess and Sunny make contact with his widow, Juliet (Victoria Hamilton), more secrets come to light. Sinéad Keenan is a 47-year-old Irish actress known for her roles as Farrah Phelan in Fair City and Nina Pickering in Being Human.

She was born and raised in Dublin as the eldest of three children and her siblings followed in her footsteps as her younger brother and sister – Rory and Gráinne – are also actors.

She didn’t always have her heart set on acting, as her university degree was in sociology and history. As a child, she had dreamed of becoming a lawyer after watching the US legal drama Matlock. #

However, as she grew older, she realised she wanted to play the role of a laywer, not actually become one.

She made her acting debut in 1999, as the teenage girlfriend of Cillian Murphy in the film, Sunburn.

In an interview with The Mirror in February 2008, Sinéad credited her brother Rory with getting herself and Grainne into acting.

“We support each other – it’s nice we all work in the same business,” she said. “So he started the acting thing in the family – our parents aren’t in the acting business at all but they are very proud of us.”

Sinéad’s sister went to star alongside her in an episode of Unforgotten season five, playing the character Debbie.

As for her personal life, in 2012 she married film and TV director Chris McGill, who founded Dusthouse Productions.

He has worked with the likes of Tom Hiddleston and Jude Law, and has directed and Holby City.

Sinéad and her husband have two sons but they remain tight-lipped about family life.

Sinéad has shared some details of motherhood on X, formerly Twitter, as in November 2022 she tweeted: “Worst thing about Saturday morning? Putting on children’s football socks!!!”

In December of that year, she revealed her sons were aged seven and five, meaning they are now likely to be nine and seven.
