The UK boasts a plethora of delightful dining spots, yet I find myself venturing into occasionally to savour one of the finest breakfast baps I’ve ever had.
The 60-mile round trip to Philip Warren Butchers in Launceston is unquestionably worth the effort.
Despite the shop’s constant bustle and the usual queue at the takeaway service hatch, the abundance of friendly staff ensures that the wait is never too long.
Situated at Unit 1, Dunheved Court on Pennygillam Way, Philip Warren offers a variety of takeaway food options alongside traditional cuts of meat from the indoor counter.
The takeaway menu includes pasties, pies, sausage rolls, burgers, chicken, baps, baguettes, sandwiches, and even scotch However, it’s the hot breakfast bap that keeps me coming back.

Packed with sausages, bacon, egg, and a hash brown, all served in a large white bun, it’s a feast for the senses. At around £6.50, it’s a hefty meal filled with delicious, high-quality ingredients.
Initially, I assumed it would be akin to the standard burger van fare, but this notion was swiftly dispelled. I’d go as far as to say it’s the best breakfast bap available, far surpassing any fast-food chain offering.
The best part? The It’s not swimming in grease, and everything tastes fresh and flavourful. If you’re planning on tackling this delectable breakfast bap, make sure you bring a hearty appetite – it’s no small portion.
If you’re not in the mood for a hefty breakfast, there are sausage or bacon baps available. You can also double up with sausage and bacon, or sausage and egg.

For those who still crave a substantial breakfast but aren’t fans of hash browns, there’s the option of a sausage, bacon and egg bap for £5.95. Throughout the week, carvery baps are also on offer, priced at £5.50 for beef or £4.95 for pork.
Although I’ve never tried one, I’ve heard they’re scrumptious. Philip Warren has been a fixture for many years, having opened the out-of-town Launceston store about 12 years ago.
They say it “has evolved greatly, due to demand, to become our new home”.
Their website reveals: “A big part of our business is all about bringing through the next generation and we always aim to have approximately eight apprentices working their way towards having a trade, many of whom have stayed with us and are now a fundamental part of what we do.”
The traditional butcher shop also operates online, offering next day click and collect, or free delivery on orders over £100.
Philip Warren also supplies local eateries including Padstow’s Paul Ainsworth at No 6, as well as the award-winning chain Flat Iron and Notting Hill venue The Ledbury.
