‘The only one that had a tougher night than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift,’ president shared on social media
The bad blood between President Donald Trump and Taylor Swift doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.
It was a reaction the Cruel Summer singer wasn’t used to hearing.
“What’s going on?” she mouthed to rapper Ice Spice, who was seated next to her, greeting the jeers with a disbelieving side-eyed glance.
It stood in stark contrast to last year’s Super Bowl to the cheers Swift heard, when she flew back from Japan to support Kelce’s Chiefs in Las Vegas.
Swift may have been surprised, but Trump was not. The recently re-elected Republican became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl in the event’s 59-year history and was embraced warmly by the crowd.
After he reiterated his desire to make Canada a 51st state in an interview with Fox News earlier in the day on Sunday, Trump made an appearance at the big game, standing and saluting during the performance of America’s national anthem, where he drew loud cheers when he was shown on the jumbotron.
With the Eagles ahead the entire game, Trump — whopraised Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes, calling him a “great, great quarterback” and a player who “really knows how to win”— left the Super Bowl in the third quarter. But that didn’t stop him from poking fun at Swift for getting booed.
Trump also shared side-by-side videos of how the crowd received both him and Swift, indirectly implying he had been greeted with a hero-like welcome.
Swift had long kept quiet about politics, but the 14-time Grammy winner broke her silence in 2018 when she announced she was voting for two Tennessee Democrats.
After previously calling her “fantastic” and “terrific,” Trump was miffed at her public declarations. “Let’s say that I like Taylor’s music about 25% less now, OK?” he said.
In 2020, after Trump tweeted threats at George Floyd protesters in Minnesota, she accused the commander-in-chief of “stoking the fires of white supremacy” and promised to use her voice against him in that year’s presidential election.
“I wish the best for both of them. I hope they enjoy their life, maybe together, maybe not — most likely not,” Trump said.
Days after her endorsement of Harris, Trump took to his Truth Social platform and declared, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
Swift seemed to laugh off the razzing Sunday night and her celebrity pal Serena Williams, who was later seen dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track Not Like Us during the halftime show, came to her defence.
“Well, I think indirectly, the NFL has seen an impact,” he said. “Certainly, our fan base took a big leap forward last year — particularly with female, specifically young female fans. I think we had something like a 30% growth in our fan base, which is pretty significant even for a team that won the Super Bowl. So you have to definitely give Taylor a little bit of credit for that… We still get a lot of eyeballs — this year, we’ve had several games and broken records, and I think Taylor is a little bit a part of that.”
