A recent study of 2,000 adults has revealed that Brits are consuming over 12 million litres of coffee each morning to kick-start their day and endure the journey to work. This equates to a staggering 53 million mugs of coffee consumed every morning.
For 53% of coffee drinkers, functioning without their morning caffeine fix is nearly impossible, while 47% wouldn’t dare leave the house without a cup in hand.
Londoners appear to be the most reliant on their morning brew, with 52% stating that coffee provides them with the energy needed to face the day ahead. Their first cup is typically poured at 7:14 am.
The research was commissioned by Nespresso to celebrate its new pod collaboration with Oatly. Free pods are being handed out to commuters this week at major stations such as London Victoria and Waterloo.

Gen Z is leading the way in embracing oat milk, with more than double the number pairing it with their coffee compared to Boomers.
However, the survey also discovered that 41% of coffee drinkers enjoy experimenting with flavours and milk alternatives, with 30% regularly swapping traditional milk for variety or perceived health benefits.
During the colder months, the warming comfort of coffee leads to an even greater reliance, with 64% craving its cosy embrace.
By the time they hit 27, a staggering 43% of Brits say coffee is essential for their energy boost, while 37% rely on it to sharpen their focus.
For those looking to indulge in their caffeine fix, there’s good news as free coffee pods will be up for grabs at Waterloo Station on February 14th and Manchester Piccadilly Station on February 17th, from 7am until noon.
Anna Lundstrom, the CEO of Nespresso UK&I, has highlighted the dynamic nature of Britain’s coffee scene, with oat milk options like Oat Lattes and Flat Whites gaining traction in cafes across the country.
She revealed, “More than half of UK coffee shop visitors now choose oat-based coffees, with favourites like Oat Lattes, Cappuccinos, and Flat Whites growing in popularity year after year.”
