ITV Unforgotten stars admits he was ‘blown away’ by season 6 newcomers ahead of new series

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Unforgotten.

Original Unforgotten star Sanjeev Bhaskar has praised the new cast members who left him “blown away”.

Unforgotten has been absent from ITV’s schedule for the past two years following the introduction of DCI Jessica James (played by Sinead Keenan) who replaced DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) after her shocking death.

Fast-forward to the present day and James’ once icy relationship with partner DCI Sunil “Sunny” Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) is now much more harmonious as they tackle another challenging case together.

This time, a body is discovered at Whitney Marsh, leading the investigation to four individuals connected to the murder in some way.

MyAnna Buring from The Witcher plays outspoken political commentator Melinda Ricci, Martin “Marty” Baines, an autistic man living with his mother, is played by Maximilian Fairley, Shantaram actor Elham Ehsas portrays Afghan refugee Asif Syed and COBRA star Victoria Hamilton plays history lecturer Juliet Cooper.

Ahead of the sixth season premiere, original star Bhaskar shared his experience working with the guest stars on ITV.

“It was just fantastic. It’s one of the joys of this series”, he began.

“MyAnna Buring and Max Fairley – I think it was Max’s first job. Elham Ehsas, Victoria Hamilton.

“It’s a privilege for me to watch them work, just be sharing scenes with them, but to be sitting a foot away from them, having to convey quite complex things, and watching them do it with such grace and skill.”

Bhaskar expressed his admiration further: “I remember that feeling, especially in series one, sitting across from these exalted stars – it was like having the best seat in the theatre. You can see everything.

“The four of them, this time, with all the supporting cast behind them, were fantastic.

“You know, it’s lovely to initially see and hear real voices and see real people embodying these characters that you’ve read about on the page.

“But to share scenes with them is glorious. I was blown away in the scenes that we did together, and I would tell them that as well.”

Unforgotten season six premieres on Sunday, February 9, at 9pm on ITV and ITVX.
