Inside Miss Austen star Max Irons’ life off-screen from famous family to wife

The ‘s latest period drama, Miss Austen, has begun gracing our screens. The series is a creative interpretation of the life of Pride and Prejudice author Jane Austen and her family, inspired by Gill Hornby’s 2020 novel Miss Austen.

The show boasts an impressive cast including Keeley Hawes, Rose Leslie, Jessica Hynes, Phyllis Logan and Alfred Enoch. Viewers are eager to learn more about other cast members such as Max Irons, who plays Mr Henry Hobday in the four-part Regency Era series.

The 39 year old star is the offspring of heavyweight Jeremy Irons and Irish acting legend Sinéad Cusack. He hails from the renowned Cusack acting dynasty, with Father Brown actress Sorcha Cusack, The Tower’s Niamh Cusack and Catherine Cusack as his aunts.

His Miss Austen co-star Calam Lynch, also known for Bridgerton, is his first cousin. Irons is a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and has starred in Red Riding Hood and The Host among other films.

His filmography includes The Riot Club, Woman in Gold, The Wife and Bitter Harvest, while his TV credits include The White Queen, ITV’s Tutankhamun, Condor and The Little Drummer Girl. According to IMDb, Irons is set to play Mycroft Holmes in the upcoming series Young Sherlock.

Off-screen, he is married to Tatler’s Creative Director Sophie Pera. The couple wed in a charming evening ceremony in Oxfordshire in 2019, having been together since 2013.

Sophie once penned a candid piece for Tatler, discussing her challenge in selecting the perfect wedding attire, confessing an unexpected preference for tuxedos over traditional gowns. She even toyed with the idea of wearing red or black, which she ran by Max and her mother, only to receive a lukewarm response to her bold bridal fashion ideas.

Eventually, a stunning Vivienne Westwood creation captured her heart, leading Sophie to embrace a large white dress for their candle-lit wedding ceremony. In February 2023, Sophie took to to announce the couple’s first child with an affectionate post: “SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND. Due any day now.”

Despite this glimpse into her life, Sophie and Max maintain a low profile when it comes to their family, as Max keeps off social media.

Even so, Sophie’s exquisite styling skills have been displayed through her contributions to the fashion magazine. She was previously the Fashion Editor of Town & Country.
