Canucks: Thatcher Demko leaves Leafs game with apparent injury

It’s not obvious what happened to Demko, but Kevin Lankinen has taken over in goal.

A review of the previous couple minutes before Demko left the game didn’t suggest anything out of the ordinary: he didn’t look awkward in making any saves, didn’t stumble playing the puck, nor did he deal with any collisions.

Kevin Lankinen took his place in goal.

The Sportsnet broadcast showed a clip of Demko making a trio of saves during warmup but clearly wincing after each. Obviously he started the game hoping that whatever was bothering him would clear.

The Canucks announced at the start of the second period that Demko wouldn’t return to the game.

Demko was injured to start the season as he rehabilitated from an injured popliteus muscle in his left knee, an injury he first suffered in the first game of the playoff last spring.

We don’t know whether this injury is new or if it’s related to the popliteus muscle injury, but it’s certainly the first thing you might think of.
