The four mile Golden Mile of beaches are a haven for those looking to catch some rays throughout the year. The promenade is lined with fabulous restaurants selling beers, burgers and seafood making it one of the most popular beachfront stretches in the country.

At the southern end of Durban you will find uShaka Marine World – one of the largest marine parks in the southern hemisphere. It opened on April 30 2004 and contains an amazing 10,000 animal species.

Durban is also home to Africa’s oldest surviving botanic garden. Established in 1849, the Durban Botanic Gardens are a key national and local asset. With a free entrance fee, the gardens provide a peaceful haven for birds, butterflies and frogs.
The city has become the destination of choice for flocks of people craving the warm splash of the Indian Ocean and the all-round affordability.
And it seems people are slowly realising Durban’s attraction as the city has seen its tourism numbers increasing recently. In 2025, Durban is on track to welcome over 1.3 million visitors.
Durban’s tourism strategy is aiming to entice even more visitors and is targeting domestic tourism to increase to over 3.1 million visitors by 2026.
