reportedly “fast-tracked” Meghan Markle into the Royal Family for one key reason before her marriage to .

The late Queen, who died in 2022, was believed to have been a fan of her grandson’s partner after meeting her, and was keen for her to become a part of the family.

This was revealed by a Palace courtier, who that the late Queen believed the now Duchess of Sussex – who quit royal life with Harry in 2020 – was going to be a “great asset to the Monarchy”.

Royal commentator and journalist Richard Eden : “Courtiers say the Queen believed that Meghan – a divorced, mixed-race American actress – would be a breath of fresh air and a great asset to the Monarchy.

“The Queen fast-tracked her entry into the Royal Family, inviting Meghan to join her at a service to mark Commonwealth Day – her first official engagement with the Queen – two months before the wedding. It was another clear indication that Her Majesty valued Meghan and wanted her to be seen as a part of the family without delay.”

While Her Majesty seemed to originally have high hopes for the couple in the build-up to their 2018 Windsor wedding, the idea of Meghan, 43, being a breath of fresh air to the family was short-lived.

Just less than two years after their star-studded Windsor wedding, both Meghan and Harry in 2020 and move across the pond to Montecito in America, where they still live to this day with their two children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three.

Soon after leaving behind their royal duties and the UK, the couple then went on to do where they accused some unnamed members of the Royal Family of having inappropriate discussions about the colour of the skin of their son before he was born.

The late Queen responded to the interview with a statement in which she addressed the accusations while maintaining her stance that , and their son Archie were still “loved” family members. Princess Lilibet was born just months later.

Queen Elizabeth’s statement read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately. Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”

The late Queen passed away just over a year later, months before the couple continued with their accusations against the Royal Family in their docuseries Harry and Meghan, released in December 2022, followed by ’s memoir Spare in 2023.

It is believed Harry remained close to his grandmother at the time of her death.
