Comedian Alan Davies has lifted the lid on the unusual way he met his wife, Katie Maskell.
The Jonathan Creek star, 58, has been a core member of the general knowledge quiz show QI since its conception in 2003 when the show was originally presented by .
Over the past two decades, the dad-of-three has been the only constant on the long-running show after Fry handed over the hosting reins to Sandi Toksvig in 2016.
Now, the TV favourite has opened up about how he met his second wife Katie on the set back in 2005 just moments after a rogue stunt almost went horribly wrong.
During an appearance on , Alan recalled the bizarre day he met the blonde bombshell. Host Alex Jones began: “Everybody love, of course, QI. And we heard the story that that’s where you actually met your wife”.

He replied: “Yeah, it’s true, 20 years ago,” as the Welsh broadcaster shared a sweet snap of the pair together in the early days of their relationship.
The actor chuckled: “Yes, that’s an old picture of both of us and she’s still good looking. Actually, I saw her in the audience at QI. And just as I saw her, we had a stunt set up with a sugar glass – which is a glass that you can smash, right?
“And then Arthur Smith, a brilliant comedian who was on the other team, he had a glass and he thought that was a sugar glass [too]. It wasn’t a sugar glass.”
It was at this point he revealed how he narrowly missed a gruelling injury after his guest launched the glass at his desk unaware it wasn’t a prop.

Alan continued: “He threw it in our direction, I forget who was on my team, and as it came towards me, I thought, ‘I’ve just spotted someone in the audience that I want to talk to afterwards and this could end my career, this could finish me’, and I nearly died”.
Thankfully, no one was injured on set, and Alan was able to pluck up the courage to introduce himself to his wife to be with a funny anecdote in hand.
He went on: “But in fact, it hit the desk and broke and it was very funny. And I met her in the green room afterwards, and luckily for me she wasn’t wearing her glasses so she couldn’t see what I looked like”.
The happy couple tied the knot in January 2007 after a six-month engagement, with former winner Bill Baily taking on the prestigious role as his best man. Since then, the pair have gone on to have three children together: Susie, 15, Bobby, 13, and Francis, nine.
