icon Michael married his wife Kitty Ward in 2003, and the pair share two children together, Lucas and Oscar. The family live in Hampstead together.
Writing about their romance in his 2010 autobiography Life and Laughing, Michael admitted: “Unfortunately my grandma didn’t really like it when I got a girlfriend.
“She was trying to break us up, which was funny for a while but then it became quite vicious, an untenable situation.”
While Kitty works as an aromatherapist, she’s actually the relative of some pretty famous faces in showbiz. Her dad is actor Simon Ward, who shot to fame as prime minister Winston Churchill in the 1972 release Young Winston.

Simon went on to appear as Bishop Gardiner in The Tudors alongside Henry Cavill and Jonathan Rhys Meyers. He starred in the TV film version of All Creatures Great and Small in 1975, and made appearances in everything from Heartbeat to An Inspector Calls.
Simon sadly died at the age of 70 in 2012, and was buried in London’s Highgate Cemetery.
Kitty’s mum was Alexandra Malcolm, who met Simon while they were students at RADA together. Alexandra was best known for starring in an episode of Sunday Night as Jean in 1966.

But perhaps better known is Kitty’s sister Sophie Ward, Holby City and Heartbeat star. Sophie – who is also an author – started working as an actress when she turned 10, and has starred in everything from Withering Heights to Land Girls.
Sophie married her husband Paul Hobson in 1988 and they welcomed two children together, but just a few years later in 1996 came out as a lesbian after becoming involved with poet Rena Brannan. She divorced Paul and married Rena in 2014 after nine years of civil partnership.
