Teenage darts sensation Luke Littler is considering legal action against a local bar dubbed ‘Nukes Sports Bar’. The establishment, poised to open its doors in Warrington and named in homage to the Runcorn-born darting prodigy, has found itself in the crosshairs of the 18-year-old world champion.

The bar’s decor pays tribute to Littler, planning to deck out its staff in purple polo shirts with yellow logos, bearing ‘The Nuke’ – a moniker that has become synonymous with Littler.

Yet, Littler safeguarded his nickname last year by trademarking it following his rapid ascent to fame after an outstanding tournament performance at Alexandra Palace from late 2023 to early 2024. Bar owner Owen Williams has been served a legal notice from Littler’s solicitors, putting Williams’ plans to offer budget-friendly pints at £2.40 on pause as he deals with the complications outlined in the letter.

Williams didn’t single-handedly select the name for the darts-themed bar; it was the result of a social media poll where fans elected the venue’s name. However, this democratic approach seems to have landed him in trouble.

Williams, aged 32, is now appealing to Littler, hoping for leniency and a potential reversal of the lawyers’ stance. A Facebook post from the bar’s account pleaded, “We are sure this isn’t Luke himself and he would be proud to have a bar recognising his achievements.

“Lets tag him and see if we can stop the little man being crushed! Pray for the little man. Unfortunately we may have to change our name before it’s even begun!”

However, Williams might find it challenging to get Littler’s attention right now, as the young darts sensation is tied up with playing commitments in Premier League Darts. He faced a narrow defeat on Thursday night, losing 6-5 to Michael van Gerwen, which was a stark contrast to last month’s World Championship final where he triumphed.
