Leyton Orient star Jamie Donley caught out Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega from just past the halfway line in a magical FA Cup moment on Saturday.
With their eye on a giant-killing and a spot in the last 16, Orient fans produced an electric atmosphere at the Gaughan Group Stadium for their fourth-round showdown with the reigning Premier League champions.
Their passionate support was rewarded by Orient giving as good as they got in the opening exchanges. And 20-year-old Donley, who is on loan from , sent the stadium into raptures when he pounced on a loose ball in the 16th minute.
His effort from miles out looped over the scrambling Ortega, cannoned back off the bar and went in off the City stopper.
It therefore goes down as a Blues own goal but there is no doubt about who will be remembered for it, with Donley’s audacious strike catching City, Ortega and both sets of fans completely by surprise.
