may be the King of the UK and Commonwealth, however behind closed doors he is not too dissimilar from the rest of us.
As well as being a husband, a father and a grandfather, the King is also known for being a man with a great sense of humour, as revealed by people who have worked with him before.
This includes his ex butler Grant Harrold, who served Charles when he was the Prince of Wales between 2005 and 2011, and has spoken about him fondly ever since.
While praising him as an employer, Grant also shared one story of the monarch, 76,
Shortly after he started in 2005, the ex butler said he was staying at the Castle of Mey with the King and fellow staff members.

During their first night at the castle, Grant said the staff were telling him ghost stories about a grey lady and headless horseman, leaving him “terrified”.
After going to his room in the castle, Grant said he had a feeling the fellow staff members were going to play a practical joke on him.
He said: “I go to my room up a spiral staircase and I remember being terrified. I felt like they were going to play a practical joke on me as a sort of initiation.
“I put the light on and looked in the room and couldn’t see anything. I looked under the bed, looked behind the curtain, and in the room was an old tower. I opened the door and there was nothing. I turned around and behind the door, is a six foot mannequin of a man in royal uniform. I screamed. I couldn’t physically stop screaming.”

The butler could then hear the fellow staff members responsible for the prank laughing. The next morning, Grant spoke to the King at breakfast about the prank played on him.
Recalling the story, he said: “The following morning I’m doing breakfast, and the now King said to me, ‘was everything okay last night’.
“He said ‘what happened’, I said there was a mannequin by my door. He said ‘oh dear, actually I was involved. Bloody brilliant wasn’t it’. It shows he’s got a bit of a humour about him.
“That is exactly what he is like. He used to be so much fun and do so many funny things. He knew about them [the staff] and supported them.”
