Kay Burley confirms ‘next adventure’ after quitting Sky News

The news anchor, 64, announced she would be stepping back from the programme after 36 years on air – much to the surprise of fans and colleagues.

Now Kay has taken to to thank fans for their support over the years, and confessed she is enjoying her first weekend of retirement with a trip to the Isle of Wight.

Speaking in a video posted to the platform, Kay said: “Morning everybody, how are you all doing? Thank you so much for all your wonderful messages, it was really, really, really appreciated.

“I am starting my first adventure since moving on from Sky, and I am going boating. I’m taking the boat over to Cowes for lunch and then we’re going to do the Needles which apparently can be very tricky. So with some trepidation I’m heading to the boat now, I can see her in the water. I’ll take you throughout the course of the day if you’d like.”

Kay announced her retirement live on-air, telling viewers: “After over a million minutes of live TV news, more than anyone else in the world, it’s time for me to indulge in some of my other passions, including my love for travel.

“So, after covering 12 separate general elections, including Sir ‘s victory last year, I am retiring from Sky News, let politicians of every party just rejoice at that news.

“Thank you for waking up and tuning in every morning. I can’t tell you how much I have appreciated your support over the last three and a half decades – you’re awesome. I will post more on my social media and hope to see you around. Please keep in touch.”
