The Radio 1 presenter – who has partnered up with – joined the star-studded cast of the reality show last year alongside the likes of Oti Mabuse, Tulisa Contostavlos and GK Barry.

Throughout his time in the jungle, the TV presenter quickly won over the hearts of the nation with his loveable personality and his dedication to camp chores.

But half-way through the series, the 44-year-old shared his celebrity crush is none other than Carol Vorderman after he won his personal item which was a pillow covered with pictures of his family and friends as well as the star herself.

In the show’s final week, he became the fourth star to leave the jungle and was surprised to receive some sweet messages from the former Queen of the Jungle on the spin-off show I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the TV personality has revealed his plans to reconnect with the brunette beauty, 64, at the Pride of Britain Awards later this year.

Reflecting on their connection on the show, he gushed: “So she went on Unpacked with Joel Dommett, so when I came out, I had all these beautiful messages [from her] which they played out on the show.

“To be honest, she’s my genuine crush and to get messages from Carol Vorderman was pretty much enough for me. But when I’ve been in the street or on the train, everyone’s just been like, ‘Oh my God, Melvin has Carol messaged you yet?’”

Now, Melvin has decided to listen to the fans advice and has made a plan to approach the maths whizz on the red carpet at the star-studded event this autumn. He went on: “Everyone’s so invested but I try not to set myself up in case it doesn’t happen.

“But look, all I’m saying is hopefully for Pride of Britain I’m going to get the best suit and the best shoes ever. And I will say hello to her, even if I only say hello to her on the red carpet that will be an improvement to last year.”

It comes after the TV presenter teamed up with Magic Breakfast – a charity that provides a safe space for children and young people and aims to ensure no child goes to school too hungry to learn – ahead of Children’s Mental Health Week.

Speaking about his work with the charity, Melvin revealed: “I actually went a school in my local area and I used to work with young people in a youth club in East London.

“So, when I was contacted by Magic Breakfast, I thought it was a great thing to be involved with because I’ve actually taught myself and I know how important it is for a young person’s concentration when they’re fed.

“One in five kids suffer from food insecurities of some kind and 83% of teachers have said that charities like Magic Breakfast has really helped to impact their children in a positive way. I just feel like our young people are quite often forgotten, which is why it’s so important that we have stuff like children’s mental health week.”
