Former judge and veteran chef Dame Prue Leith has shared her special method for getting the ultimate roast potatoes.

Professional chefs and home all have their own , from boiling to different types of oil or fat.

In a new tutorial, Prue detailed how she gets her potatoes “absolutely perfect” – and just in time for the weekend.

Initially she makes them in the ‘classic’ way, where the potatoes are par boiled until the edges begin to break.

She said: “Well I make them in the classic way, that you boil them until they’re a bit cooked around the outside.”

Make sure the edges of the potatoes are soft and slightly broken in the saucepan.

Prue continued: “Then put the lid back on and give it a mighty great shake. And you’re just trying to rough up the edges.”

Next you’ll need a handful of bread crumbs, scattering them over the potatoes in the pan.

Follow this with enough melted butter to make the potatoes “greasy”.

Then place in a preheated oven until the potatoes are brown and crispy.

Prue said: “Then when they come out, there you have it. Nice, perfect roast potatoes.”
