There’s no denying embarking on a cruise ship getaway is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Sailing across the vast ocean with sights one can only dream of is among its biggest attractions, but the vast entertainment onboard is also part of the appeal when booking a cruise trip.

Cruise ships have a variety of different onboard activities including gaming nights, theatrical shows and cocktail parties.

The other major benefit of cruise ships is that you can often get your hands on some of the most interesting drinks in the world.

Award-winning travel expert Sue Bryant offers key when it comes to your cruise ship journey in her blog.

To avoid any nasty surprises on your epic journey, Bryant urges tourists to pay attention to drinks when on a cruise.

Many think alcoholic beverages are automatically free when, in fact, they’re not.

Many cruise lines do include in their overall fare drinks such as water, tea, and coffee.

However, when it comes to alcohol and sodas, the expert urges to verify whether the drinks are included in the booking and, if not, advises to get a beverage package.

Bryant said: “Depending on your habits, investing in a beverage package can be one of the best cruise tips to follow.

“It’s easy on the carefree, sunny days of vacation to enjoy a couple of glasses of wine with lunch, a sundowner as you set sail, more wine with your evening meal, and then some cocktails in the nightclub.”

A cruise ship package is often more cost-effective as purchasing beverages separately will mean having to pay a gratuity each time.

“It’s not all about booze; other beverage packages offer non-alcoholic drinks, some cater to kids, and others include just soda or mineral water,” added Bryant.

Other complimentary drinks offered by most mainstream cruise lines include flavoured water, milk, lemonade and hot chocolate.

Royal Caribbean has increased their range of free drinks on cruise ships and now includes tap water, basic coffee, tea, flavored water (e.g., cucumber-mint, strawberry-basil), iced tea, and lemonade.

Whereas, a few cruise lines have reduced their serving options for complimentary drinks, with Norwegian Cruise Line now discontinuing serving juices such as orange and cranberry as part of their complimentary breakfast.

Other cruise lines have now imposed a limit when it comes to free daily drink consumption, with Carnival Cruise Line now capping the number of free juice servings each day in certain dining spaces.
