BBC Saturday Kitchen’s EastEnders special leaves viewers ‘switching off’ within minutes

viewers raged they were swtiching over to James Martin on as the show welcomed several members of the cast as part of the soap’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

They described it as “the TV crossover you never knew you needed” but fans disagreed taking to X to vent about the Matt Tebbutt hosted special.

“@SaturdayKitchen Well that’s spoiled my Saturday morning. I love to tune in every week, but an special, no thanks!,” one fumed.

“#SaturdayKitchen no thank you there’s no way I’m watching woodyat and hyena on the same show James Martin here I come,” another commented.

“#SaturdayKitchen I don’t watch so I don’t know any of the guests on this morning! Disappointing!,” a third said. “Live special? I love your show @matt_tebbutt, strongly dislike ,” a fourth wrote.

However not everyone disliked the premise with one fan chiming in: “As a longtime #SaturdayKitchen fan I didn’t think the show could get any better but here we are with an special .. what more could you want with your Saturday morning.”

The soap’s longest serving actor Adam Woodyat, who plays Ian Beale, was joined by Jacqueline Jossa (Lauren Branning), Rudolph Walker (Patrick Truman) and Emma Barton (Honey Mitchell) as guests on the special edition.

At one point Adam even showcased his own culinary skills creting a a posh pie and mash for the show.

The food heaven and hell was also themed with Matt asking viewers to vote between his versions of Beale’s fish and chips and Jean Slater’s sausage surprise.

The fish and chips scored 63% of the audience vote and Matt demonstrated his take on the soap classic for the guests.

Throughout the show the cast also faced a quiz about the show including what their first ever lines were with Adam incredulously exclaiming: “You want me to remember what I said in 1985!”

is set to broadcast a live episode on Thursday February 20 to mark the shows four decades on air.

However although Matt grilled the cast about what viewers could expect from it they refused to spill the beans .
