Radiators are essential for keeping homes warm during the cold UK winters and as per the experts, covering the back of your radiator with a foil can improve the temperature of the room.

The tip, that hardly takes 10 seconds, will cost you around £1 and is easily available anywhere.

The expert claimed: “The foil acts as a reflector and reflects heat back into the room to prevent it escaping through any external walls.”

To try this, cut a strip of aluminum foil that matches the length of your radiator.

Secure the foil to the back of the radiator using tape. The shiny side should face outward toward the room.

The expert continued: “Alternatively, you can wrap cardboard in foil and place this behind the radiator for a sturdier fit.”

Radiators heat up and release warmth in all directions, including toward the wall. The foil reflects heat back into the room, preventing it from being absorbed by the wall.

This makes the room warm up faster and retain heat longer, reducing energy waste and lowering heating bills.

However, there is another hack that doesn’t require a single penny and will keep your house warm.

The expert said: “Allowing natural light and sunlight into your home will aid in keeping your house warmer throughout the day, whilst closing them in the evening will help to retain the heat when the nights draw cooler.

“Furthermore, curtains in heavy fabrics such as suede, velvet and cotton are great for trapping heat whilst floor-length curtains help with added insulation and keep window drafts from entering the room.”
