A new study has found the 10 best new cars for drivers who want to  in several years.

Whilst the moment the owner drives off the forecourt for the first time, certain models can avoid depreciating, helped by .

According to a study from the motoring publication , the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS holds its value the best over the space of three years.

Despite certainly not being a practical family model, with a typical new price of £128,300, three-year-old examples retail for an average cost of £89,350 – meaning they still have 69.64% of their value.

had three models in the study’s top 10, with the manual gearbox version of the 911 GT3 and the Macan 2.0T ranking fourth and 10th, respectively.

Another model that is able to avoid strong depreciation on the used car market is the Land Rover Defender 110 P300e, which typically retains 68.79 percent of its value after three years.

Despite being a controversially large departure from the rough-and-ready original Defender (a heavily revised version of the original 1948 Land Rover), the latest version offers an unusual mix of rugged capability off-road and refinement in towns and cities.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport P270e also ranked well, with three-year-old examples still having an average of 63.81 percent of their value with an average price of £33,675.

However, not all of the models that keep their value the longest are luxury cars. The Dacia Duster 1.0 TCe Bi-Fuel Essential came eighth in the study, with an average value of 63.35 percent after three years.

The particular variant of the affordable SUV holds its value because it can be run on petrol or liquid petroleum gas (LPG), helping drivers save a significant amount on their fuel bills.

Several other affordable models are featured in the top 20, including the Suzuki Ignis 1.2, Vauxhall Grandland Electric, and Mini Cooper C Classic.
