The Chase viewers stunned as player faces ‘haunting’ loss after ‘insane’ blunder

Anguish struck The Chase fans on Friday (February 7), as baffled viewers tweeted outbursts like “what on earth” while witnessing a contestant endure a devastating defeat.

In the latest instalment of the popular ITV quiz show, Sarah teamed up with Arash, Suzanne, and James, all hoping to take home a significant cash jackpot.

The 41-year-old optical advisor stepped up first and confidently raked in £6,000 during her cash builder round. When faced with chaser Darragh Ennis, known as The Menace, she courageously stayed with the middle offer.

Sarah initially sailed through her round, answering question after question correctly, putting a substantial distance between herself and the chaser, who struggled with incorrect answers.

Host Bradley Walsh was impressed, commenting, “Chaser remains three behind, one more and we’re home and dry. Get this right and you’d actually have had two goes at £30,000, so you’re a good player,” reports .

But the tide turned against Sarah, especially after she stumbled on what the audience deemed an “obvious” punctuation question. This slip-up allowed Darragh to regain ground and ultimately knock her out of the game.

Bradley could hardly conceal his surprise, remarking, “I mean, I’ve got to be honest, we were four ahead!” to which a disappointed Sarah said, “I just got unlucky.”

Darragh chimed in with sympathy, “Yeah, you did get unlucky, but you are going to look back at that colon [question] and it’ll haunt you for the rest of your life.

“That wasn’t the hard question, you should have got that one. Otherwise, you were streets ahead, you should have got home. Very unlucky.”

After Sarah was surprisingly ousted from the show, fans immediately took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disbelief. A baffled viewer exclaimed: “How on earth did she lose that?”

Another fan was stunned by the turn of events, commenting, “Absolute insane choke,” while a third chimed in with, “What just happened?”

A fourth supporter shared their amazement at the outcome, posting: “Shocker absolute shocker the colon question was one of the easiest questions ever asked on #thechase.”

Darragh showed impressive knowledge as he proceeded to send both Arash and Suzanne packing. The last player standing, James, managed to build an impressive £80,000 pot but ultimately stumbled in the final chase, ending his run on the show.
